"Dear Eric & Jean,
Again just wanted to say thank you for a lifetime memory for me. It might sound strange, but it was a fantasy come true for me...the Ranchers Meeting, The Cowbells Meeting and yes even the digging was perfect! But what was best of all was getting to know the two of you, your home and your hospitality- That's what really captured my heart. You gave me a chance to experience a way of life I've always imagined for me...simple yet important in your everyday life. I hope someday I will find passion like that.
God Bless you Two
"I'll pray for good health and for rain."
Hope to see you again someday.
Your California Friend,"

"Dear Eric and Jean,
I am now home in the tamer lowlands of England. I have replaced cat claw and cholla with crocus and bluebells. My saddle is without horn, my horse without dally, and if I fall off (something I've yet to experience) I will land in the soft sand of the arena. It is altogether a different world, but the time I spent with you is solidly with me, and I am doing my best, both in novel and essay form, to translate it into prose. Thank you for an unforgettable week: great work, great food, great conversation, great insight. I am already plotting how to make it back next February. Jean, I was so sorry not to be able to find you to say goodbye at the fairgrounds, and Eric your bear-hug goodbye will stay with me for months.
Much love to your entire beautiful family,"

"Folks, our trip out there was just superb. We learned a lot and had the hard good time promised. The trip home was uneventful; made the drive in just nine hours, fueled all the way with gluten-free pancake cookies (in my car, only two cookies made it all the way to San Diego). You have quite the adventure camp there, even though you insist on calling it a ranch.
Jean, the ranch chow was great. Thanks for your ingenuity in developing the diet-restricted meals; that made a big difference for us all. And, as you don’t have enough to do already, you (and Chrissy) should get together on a ranch cookbook."
